Matty, while I can see you have acknowledged my photo was in the NPCC newsletter can I respectfully suggest that copying things from a club newsletter and posting them on this site is a little questionable. Newsletters like the NPCC one suffer from a lack on content, and some of us members support the club by trying to generate content. This site is a great site for those that like it and wish to use. The two can work together and this site can generate membership for the club and the club can be a source of info for all. But by just copying notable sections of the last newsletter...without the submitters permission...makes both the club and newsletter pointless. If you are going to copy peoples submissions for the someone else's benefit maybe you should ask first....and maybe there is a reason they support the newsletter first and foremost.  Yes, I am sorry I am upset and the fact that this is my first post on here for many many years maybe that reflects my thoughts. Regards, Jeffrey Corker, NPCC 733 - proud supporter of the club and its newsletter.

Jeffrey,

Well I was waiting for someone to get their nose outta joint. I'm sorry that my interest in submitting your item to a wider audience has offended you.
Sharing an item after printing is not exactly a robbing a newsletter of any new content or it's purpose.

I am as equally annoyed that you have ranted about needing to support the newsletter.... You are correct. However, I guess you have not noticed just how much my name appears at submitting photos and info. It can get to the point where getting the newsletter is not as exciting as it used to be. Because i have seen half of it already. Like you, i am a proud member who supports our club and newsletter!

So.... What can we do.... You and many other members here might like to get of your own bums and share more than an opinion about what i do here when all i am doing is trying to improve on our plateshed for everyone and maintain an online history of plates. It would be very nice to see some more content from you after things are published in the newsletter. Otherwise, why are you here if you'd not like to post and share.... Just lift info maybe :?: It can work both ways. I guess that does not make you a proud member of the plateshed community

I will appreciate any advice from the editor. For now it will stop and i may just write notes and not add a photo of the item of interest or credit anyone.

Sadly, my excitement in plateshed is too much for some.... :ohwell: (as per my signature)

Matty, with respect, I don't think your reply to Jeffrey does you or Plateshed any good.  I'm inclined to agree with Jeffrey, but felt no strong need to pass my feeling on to Plateshed.  If another clubmember and newsletter contributor chooses to air their views on this matter, I respect his opinions and think that it would bode us all well if you do too.

'Sharing' of information is commonplace, and I know it works both ways, however if a newsletter contributor has specifically asked for this not to happen (even after the event), we should  consider this and accommodate their reasonable wishes.  It is no different to your opinion on selling current low value plates on ebay - not everyone agrees with that, but they respect your right to air the opinion.  Sadly that topic is outside either NPCC or plateshed's control.

I for one try hard to contribute 'original' and different material to the newsletter than that which I contribute to Plateshed.  Not much point getting a newsletter if everything in it is regurgitated online.  Similarly, I feel 'cheated' sometimes when I receive my newsletter and it contains large blocks of information taken from Plateshed.  There are only a limited number of collectors and plate researchers in Australia, so I think we can all do our bit to please most, if not all of them when situations like this crop up.

Just trying to moderate the moderator if I feel his reaction to a member's post reflects poorly on the rest of us.   Enough from me, back to the plates.  No use being here if we aren't enjoying it.  Thanks for your continued work, Matty.

That means I will stop bringing up past newsletter items here as well, even when I am answering a request for information/identification, (regarding a newsletter item). I never did get an acknowledgement regarding the P.E.M. enamel motorcycle plate.

NPCC 12 - my apologies if I have missed something? I am not aware of what you sent me that you are referring to. Please email me to resolve.

Matty - I will simply say I guess this is why I have not used this site in some years. Thank you to the person who referred the posts to me for my attention.

As I said I was not attacking this site - however there is a reason I do not contribute.

Rant over...

Go to page 6 of "view new content" and near top of page is the thread "Plate I.D. (Resolved) African Plates" It refers to a request for help made by yourself in the April 2014 newsletter page 2 bottom right. Forwarded information to email address shown.

Sorry Vin....as I do not normally frequent this site other than today I was not aware of a posting on here referring to my query in the newsletter of some months ago. We have resolved in private.

Matty - Thanks for the insult...not sure how I was meant to reply when I am not on the usually on site and I wasn't tagged in the post but I am sure the insult is warranted.

Greetings all................some brickbats and bouquets to deliver............I ummmmmed and ahhhhhhed for sometime a while back when the article that Jeffrey and I contributed to in NPCC re-appeared in these posts soon after. I decided at the time, in the best interests of maintaining peace was silence.

Let me firstly say this response is not meant to insult. Secondly the job that Matt does on this site is utterly incredible and we owe a huge debt of gratitude. Thirdly Shayne's comment above is to be applauded

However since Jeffrey has fired the first salvo, then I feel compelled to follow up in support of his comments with my own concerns.and pull you into line with some etiquette with publications. I believe I have been a contributor to both NPCC AND PLATE SHED and my concern is that carving out articles from NPCC back into PLATE SHED without reference to the author is plagiarism................simple as that.

Fair enough to grab it from other unnamed sources, and whilst I have no issue seeing my material being posted, all I ask is that you give us the courtesy of asking first (and it would almost never be denied) and then give credit to the blokes that did all the work. You've overlooked the protocols for permissions and there's no reference to either Jeffrey or me in the posts including this one below.

http://www.plateshed...-plate-listing/

I'm offended but only mildly enough to raise this issue without making too big a deal out of it. I haven't got the flame thrower out like our good American friends do when they vent their spleens, so I have chosen my words carefully.

Would you have posted this info yourself, you are not a regular contributor these days :?:  I can only assume no.

I had the original one credited, but that caused drama for Jeffery so i left it out when i done that again. It's not copied 100% directly.

The base of that list was supplied by 9RO in 2004 and i edited it with information from your article. It's only a updated list of plates, not like i stole a novel.

So when you or write articles, do i see you quoting every single source that you obtained the info from :?:

Do we need to make it like Wikipedia and have dozens of sources listed at the bottom of every page in printed magazines and on plateshed.

How many of my photos would be saved by individuals who like plates i wonder.

I can only assume you use my info on graphic plate finds to maintain your graphic plate listing too.

Am i concerned that you or anyone may gather information from here to do as they please with.... no I'm not.

I thought the site was to share and maintain knowledge.

Maybe just go wipe the racing carnival plate shots off my camera. Should i just join the many of our older posters.... and just give up here.

Maybe maintain my own neglected life and stop spending several hours every day here.

Ok, who's next to have a gripe about me :?:

Matty, I'm giving you credit for the work you do and please do keep up the great work. All I'm asking for is that you acknowledge the same credit from other contributers whom you do know.

Jim - I have removed a post containing a scanned part of a newsletter photo and caption with a full members name from ACT Lorry Plates topic.

Avoiding a repeat of the above issues. Thankfully you have shared a photo of this plate type from you own collection, which i do appreciate.

:ohwell:
