Thinking about MattP's complimentary remark about Utah and the fact that I also like that part of the US I looked out an old Rand McNally road atlas and discovered that highway 666 was much more than the spur the Nat. Geo. snippet had me believe.

666 actually started (or finished) down at the Mexican border not too far east of Tucson Arizona, and proceeded northwards through much of that state before crossing into New Mexico near Gallup and then continued to cross the Colorado border within a few kms of Four Corners. From the town of Cortez (Col) it then went north-west into Utah, but only for a short distance. All up about 800 km. - some spur !!!

In the 2005 Rand McNalley all of 666 is renumbered, some as 191 and some as 491 as in the picture above.

By an almost stranger than fiction twist, and without realising it when I made the original post, of all the places a foreigner could get in the US I had motored about 200 km of 666 back in 1982. We had visited the famous cliff dwellings at Mesa Verdi in southern Colorado, and after overnighting at Cortez visited Four corners before going south to Gallup on 666 and back to Albuquerque on route 66 (now 40) from where we had rented the car.

Here's three pix from that visit.

Mrs C and daughter doing their best to stand in four states at the same time on an early cold and windy morning even before the Navajo traders arrived. If this place was in Australia it would be beyond the black stump - perhaps even back of beyond.

666. Note the rented car (a Pontiac) had no front plate. In N.M. at that time no front plate was required - something I think peculiar to that state alone then, but now more common.

I'd easily be juvenile enough Andrew T :laughter: (Not to steal one, but to hang one on my wall for sure)

Well Moz, at least you're hoping for a spot in heaven...

G'day M8S......It just turned 06-06-06 here in Memphis, Tenn. and thinking about TAZ666 to say G'day from the land of Elvis and ThreeSixMafia rap group also known as Triple-6 Mafia for anyone into that scene.....but for today I'll mention it. The rest of Tennessee may be hillbilly and beautiful to anyone including all the Country and Western Aussies who have come here, but to a California Kid like me, Memphis is like South Central L.A......full of gangs and car jackings......................Well anyway have a great NPCC National! I'll wait for big reports.....Maybe I'll see some of you at Ontario for our Area 10 meet on 21 July! The souv plate is going to be incredible (so I'm told)...............On 20 June I'm off to Montana to visit our new ALPCA president Jeff Francis and tour the Montana landscape and collect about 49 counties to complete my set of 56
Cheers!

:?: Hey Taz - - 666 and Queensland Day on the same date, anything could happen.

Just in case, I think will go and have six of the best. See you Friday.

Last month we all stopped in my classroom for a moment to contemplate a once-in-a thousand year event.

Time: 01:02:03 Date: 04 / 05 /06

I don't think too many of us will be around the next time that happens in 3006.

What kind of class is going at that hour of the morning? :laughter:

Of course if this was pm, then the event happened twice on that day.
Plus you could've gone to the US on the 5th of April because they tend to switch the month and date around. So it happened four times this year.
Hmmm! It suddenly doesn't seem so remarkable now.

Well the world hasn't ended yet so i get to make another post....

....and take a look at what just came into my possession/collection! It wasn't planned at all. This ain't no photoshop either!

Coincidence? Destiny? Fate? A message from above (or below)????

Dunno....but it spooked me out a bit :argh:

Draw your own conclusion....

Hey Moz, maybe it's a sign of the DEVIL  and maybe you really shouldn't have that plate, it'll just bring you bad luck forever. Maybe you should just bring it along to the National this week so someone can take it off your hands. :poke: We don't want to see the Head Shedheads head spinning off now do we
As for today yesterday I was too damn busy to even think of what day it was. :censored:
